This year's Roc Lake will be home to 3 planned contests in order to celebrate our 10th anniversary! See below for a brief description.
1. The first contest is our usual and exciting K impulse drag race. It is open to everyone and all rockets will be allowed, as long as they have a K-impulse motor. Rockets entered will be launched all at the same time. More rules to follow. Winner will have his/her name engraved on a trophy.
2. The second contest new for our anniversary, "Speed of Balsa" - 38mm motor mount rocket with BALSA fins. Fins can have no more than 1 inch strip of fibre glass on the body and fin. (I guess that would be 2 inches total) Fins can be clear coated but not painted so we can confirm. Winner is the rocket that achieves the highest speed without fin flight damage. Yes, there will likely be landing damage. Prizes to be determined. Yes the rocket has to be able to carry electronics capable of measuring max speed.
3. The third contest also new for our anniversary, "Roc Lake 10 10K" - Any rocket with a 75mm motor mount or less can enter. The rocket that achieves an altitude closest to 10,000 AGL will win. Any rocket, any size. If the rocket breaks mach, the flier will get a 5% altitude bonus that can be used at their discretion. (eg flight goes to 9500 ft and breaks mach, the flier would get a 475 ft credit which would make there altitude 9975.) It does not matter if you break 10K. The winner could have a altitude of 10450 for example. Gemini Rocketry has graciously donated the first prize of a replacement motor. So if you fly an L and win, you would get an L back. There will also be a second place prize that will be determined.
As the launch date approaches, we will be asking those wishing to enter any or all of these contests to let us know ahead of time with a "brief" description of your entry.
