ONE WEEK AWAY!!
We are only seven days out and I am sure a lot of us have been dreaming of launching rockets. I will probably have one more update the middle of next week, but lets get through the usual business.
- The weather is looking OK. Unlike other years where we have had to contend with 35 degree temps, we are looking at a much milder temp in the low 20s. There is a possibility of some showers at this point, but also a good amount of sun. Plan accordingly for the weather with shelter, sunscreen, etc. Not sure what the bug population looks like yet, but Off is always a good idea.
- bring all that you will need to have a good time. There is no concession on site, so liquid refreshments and food are a necessity.
- we will have our usual bonfire on Saturday night, so bring a firewood donation.
- If you have any fireworks, we will be hopefully launching some on Saturday as well.
- WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS! Currently, there is alot of empty spots. No one launches unless some one pushes the buttons.
- For any new comers, look for signs to direct you.
- please get any questions my way ASAP.
We are only two weeks away! Th long range weather forecast is looking good and fire hazard is still low, which means that things are looking very good for the launch. Please check out the following:
- Things have seemed really quiet lately so I would love to hear back from people on whether they are coming.
- We need people to step up for duty shifts! If you go to www.lethbridgerocketry.com, you will see a blank slate of shifts as NO ONE has yet to step up. Please do so ASAP.
- Anyone have some fireworks they are itching to set off? As July 1 falls on this weekend, it would be great to add a little extra bang to the festivities. J
Lastly, a quick poll question. We send out information via our website, Facebook page, and the various Yahoo groups. Which method do you prefer to get your updates?
I will be sending out another update in a week with any last-minute details. Let me know if there are any questions.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Rock Lake this year. We had a great Friday (so many certifications) and a fantastic Saturday with many amazing flights. (Like a two stage hybrid M to a K). Thanks to everyone who make putting this on possible. Shane and Jason deserve a special shout out for being the RSO’s on site. Thanks also to everyone that helped with duty shifts and the always fun set up and tear down.
If you have any photos of the event, please post them over at www.facebook.com/RockLeth/
Stay tuned for next years dates.
Rock Lake Update
One week from today we will be launching! Everything is looking good for a fabulous event.
Launch Authorization – Check
Fire Permit – Check (or at least it is confirmed that it is on the way)
Porta potties – Check
Weather – Looking good with highs in the low 30’s, some showers possible Friday, may be getting a bit breezy Sunday.
With the heat, remember to bring lots of liquids and shade! I have no idea what the mosquito situation is like, but you can be sure our little friends will be there. Bring some repellant.
We will be having our usual Saturday bonfire, so if you have some extra wood to contribute to the pile, bring it along.
As mentioned, Friday night we hope to have some fireworks as it is Canada Day. If you have access to some, please bring it along.
Hoping to see a bunch of you out there. I will be on site Wednesday already, so come out whenever you want.

Two months from today we will have started Day two of Rock Lake! Wow, time flies fast. (Especially as you get older. J) Here are a couple of updates for everyone.
Motor Order – In talking with Angelo at Sunward, he has indicated that availability of some motors is a little spotty. His advice is to order any motors that you need ASAP in order to have the best chance of having them for Rock Lake. I assume that this would be the case for whomever that you use as a supplier. We have set up a shipment plan as we did last year that will have your motors delivered to the site for the launch. All orders must be in to Sunward (http://www.sunward1.com/) before June 17, 2016 (and even sooner as per a comment above). Please indicate at time of order that you want it shipped to Rock Lake.
Fire works? – As we will be launching on July 1, it seems in appropriate to have some fireworks no? Barring a large corporate sponsor stepping up to sponsor anything, I think we will have to settle with the potluck approach. Anyone that wants too, please bring anything you have!
Volunteers – As always, we need people to step up and help to pull this off. LCO’s, RI’s, set up, tear down, etc. Please head to http://www.lethbridgerocketry.com/rock-lake/duty-roster to sign up for some duty shifts.
As always, let me know if there are any questions.
Mark your calendars! Rock Lake 18 will be July 1 to 3, 2016.
More announcements to come. Let us know if there are any questions.
So, I am not sure if everyone has seen the forecast for the weekend, but it looks like we are going to have a very HOT time at Rock Lake this year. The current forecast calls for 32 on Friday, 35 on Saturday and36 on Sunday. Wow! Currently there are no fire advisories or bans so all is looking good on that front however, with this heat and the dryness we will be extra diligent with fire safety. To that end, anyone that is coming that has any sort of water fire extinguishers, please bring them!
Also, with this heat, we need to watch people’s health. Bring extra water and if you have any sort of easy up/sun shade, please bring those as well.
Winds are forecast to be light (5 to 10 KPH).
The good news is that we have confirmation that the mosquito population is very light this year!
See you all soon.
Just a reminder that anyone needing motors must have their orders in to Sunward by May 29th!!
Place your order with Angelo at Sunward and he will get back to you on pricing, availability and payment options. Make sure to mention that this is part of the Rock Lake order. The order will be delivered to the site (via me, Tim Rempel) and you can pick it up there.
There will be a small amount of non-warranty motors and some hardware on site from the LRA secret stash, but selection is limited. If you want a specific motor, PRE ORDER!!

Need motors and kits?
Garth Illerbrun, one half of Suborbital Technologies will be on site for Rock Lake with a selection of model and mid power motors, kits and parts. This includes Estes motors, Aerotech motors, various building supplies and kits as well as a few "ancient" kits that many will find interesting.
